Career in Childcare

Childcare is one of the few careers that are always going to need new recruits. The changing world of work means more parents than ever are having to hire someone to look after their children whilst they work the necessary hours to be able to give them the life they deserve. Every year the merits of childcare are being improved, as better ways of educating and socialising children emerge. This workplace is ever changing and diverse, a suitable challenge for anyone looking for a job to keep them on their toes.

It is very rare to find a job working with children that does not require you to have some form of qualification. Obviously, NVQ’s or other qualifications tailored for the childcare industry are useful, the majority of employers will demand them. When applying for a job it is imperative you check to see what skills are required and make sure you not only have them, but also are able to accurately convey these to a prospective employer.

You need to be prepared to fix a smile onto your face every day, this is one job where you definitely can’t bring your outside life to work. Children need stimulation and a safe atmosphere; it will be your job to provide this. The work is sometimes hard but there aren’t many jobs that can give you the level of satisfaction you will get from it.

If you find yourself an open and friendly person, able to handle changes quickly and effectively, this is the job for you. Like any profession working with people, this is a niche for someone who finds it easy to communicate and enjoys spending time with people. Every day will be different and give you new ways to form a bond with the children in your care, and give you ample opportunity to nurture their growing skills. If you enjoy being a ‘role model’, and having the opportunity to influence people’s lives for the better, then you’ve found your perfect job. The work is hard, but definitely rewarding.
