How to Evangelize Without Evangelizing

By Know It All

Many Christians shudder at the thought that they need to evangelize. They conjure up images of standing on a soap box at a busy corner and preaching the Gospel.

That, indeed, is one way to preach the Gospel, but it certainly isn’t for just anybody.

Yet, there is a way to convey your faith to others without “preaching.” Here are some thoughts:

  1. Be a listener. Most, if not all, people have needs or they’re going through a difficult situation. Oftentimes they just want to pour out their soul to someone. You can be that someone. You don’t even have to say something earth-moving. Being there can be enough for that person.
  2. Be an encourager. In these times of news of doom and gloom, what people really need is encouragement. Encouragement means to build the inner self. It is not flattery. It is not giving false hope. It’s not even giving advice. Rather its making the person see a potential within himself to rise to greater heights.
  3. Be a prayer partner. There are only a few things more soothing than knowing someone is praying for and with you. Aside from praying with your fried on the spot, let her know you will be constantly praying for her and that she can call you anytime for her prayer requests.
  4. Be a friend of integrity. This means you’ll stand with her all the way. You will not gossip about her nor will you vituperate her. Many so-called “friends” will be able to do the first three mentioned points, but as soon as your back is turned will condemn you before others. If you do this and your friend finds out, you’ll lose her forever.

When you’re able to be a listener, encourager, prayer partner and friend of integrity, people will see the faith you possess and this will prove even more powerful than if you preached behind a pulpit.
