Is It Possible To Remove Solder Without A Desoldering Tool?
ByI’m trying to remove a microswitch from the circuit board that it is attached to but I do not have a desoldering tool. Is it possible to remove solder without a desoldering tool?

Sure you can. What you need is called solder wick. If you don’t have that, then you can get some stranded wire and strip off the insulation and use that. It works like this: you place the wick on the solder you wish to remove, and heat it up with the soldering iron. The solder melts, and flows into the wire strands (wicking it away), just like liquid will absorb into a towel. Then, take away the wick, and the solder will be gone from the joint. The stranded wire has to be clean copper, so an old appliance cord may be too dirty and corroded to work – try stripping a co-ax cable and using the braid from that.
Another way is if you have a heat gun, but this will melt the solder off of EVERYTHING on the board, so it’s no good if you want to re-use that board. If it’s a junk board and you just want the parts, then heat-gun the board while holding it upside down and keep tapping it, and all the parts just rain down off of it.

You could probably remove the switch just by heating up the joints ans pulling on the pins.
There is really no way to get the solder off there without some device to pull it off the solder joint. Whether it be a desoldering braid, desoldering bulb or even a simple piece of copper wire to pull the solder from the joint.

It’s possible, but it’s certainly easier with the desoldering tool.
